At DMU, we believe in supporting our staff to grow and thrive in their careers.

Regular appraisals with line managers are a key part of  this, and progress is tracked through the DMUhub digital  workplace. We offer a wide range of learning and  development opportunities to help you enhance your  skills and further your career.

  • For academics, these opportunities include:

    1. The Open Programme of Academic Professional Development workshops
    2. Routes to recognition through Advance HE Fellowships and the DMU Teacher Fellowship scheme
    3. The Post-Graduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PGCAP)
    4. The Programme Leader Development Framework (PLDF)
    5. The annual Learning and Teaching Conference
    6. Funding for innovative projects through the Academic Innovation Project (AIP) fund

We also provide internal coaching and mentoring services to all staff, helping you work  towards your professional goals. Staff development workshops cover personal  effectiveness, leadership, and management, and there are self-paced learning options  available through LinkedIn Learning.

Our staff networks—DMU Women, Disabled Staff and Allies, BAME Staff, and LGBTQ+  Staff—offer valuable development opportunities like workshops and the chance to shape  university policies. If you're interested in joining, just email equality@dmu.ac.uk.

There are also plenty of ways to engage with our equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI)  initiatives, such as joining our ‘Community of Practice’ through Decolonising DMU or  participating in events throughout the year.

We also run the Dare to Be mentoring scheme, open to all DMU students. Any staff member  can apply to be a mentor and use their experiences to guide and inspire students
