Associate Professor of Cyber Security

The School of Computer Science and Informatics at De Montfort University is looking to appoint an associate professor in Cyber Security within the Digital Future Research Institute.

Cyber Security at DMU

The Cyber Technology Innovation (CTI) group at DMU has existed for over 15 years, and currently consists of some 25 academic staff. It has been participating in National Cyber Security Centre initiatives such as the RITICS and RISCS research centres, and currently holds Academic Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security Education (Gold) status. Its specialisation areas include incident response, privacy, and industrial control system security, as Airbus’ only Centre of Excellence in SCADA Security. Its Industrial Advisory group consists of Airbus, BT, Rolls Royce, and Deloitte UK. Recent investment contributions to the extensive cyber security labs have been made by the Office for Students and Deloitte UK.

Faculty / School

The School of Computer Science and Informatics, within the Faculty of Technology, Arts and Culture, is large (with over 80 staff and some 2,500 students) and has a very diverse make up (50% BAME, 30% female, wide age range). Its research is part of the Digital Future Research Institute, and is highly relevant and topical, through the concentration on the three main areas where computing affects modern society: AI, cyber, and social impact.

The School offers an NCSC accredited MSc in Cyber Security and an MSc in Digital Forensics, CPD, undergraduate and apprenticeship programmes in this area. The CTI provided 2 out of 5 impact case studies for REF 2021. Computer Science at DMU is ranked 301-400 worldwide (24th in UK) in the Shanghai Ranking, and 301-400 in the THES World University Rankings.

Role

The newly appointed associate professor will contribute to leadership in a dynamic well-established research area with strong industry connections, and contribute to synergising cyber security research with the Institute’s other research areas. They will be instrumental in generating collaborations, developing research projects and other income streams, and mentoring junior colleagues and students.

Ideal Candidate

You will need strong leadership skills and initiative, strength in building links with stakeholders (industry, government, academia), with a track record in income generation and academic publications or comparable industry-based research.
