Main duties and responsibilities

De Montfort University is an ambitious, globally‑minded institution with a strong focus on delivering quality teaching and learning and a campus‑wide focus on providing a sector‑leading student experience. As a culturally rich university with a deep commitment to the public good, the DMU community strives to maintain a stimulating and inclusive environment where staff and students are able to thrive.

Registry Services

Registry Services provides expert guidance, governance and operational support across the student lifecycle. The directorate works collaboratively with faculties, professional services and external partners to uphold academic standards, regulatory compliance and high‑quality student outcomes.

The Role

Be at the heart of shaping and safeguarding academic quality across the university. As Deputy Director and Head of Academic Quality, you will lead the development and continuous improvement of DMU’s academic quality assurance and enhancement frameworks, ensuring academic provision meets regulatory requirements and delivers excellent student outcomes. You will monitor sector developments, advise senior leaders, and ensure academic policy, procedures and regulations remain effective, efficient and well‑communicated. The role involves embedding a risk‑based approach to quality assurance, strengthening academic governance, ensuring student voice informs enhancement activity, overseeing provision across DMU and its partners, and ensuring compliance with professional and statutory bodies. You will prepare the annual academic quality report for Academic Board, lead and develop the Academic Quality team, and deputise for the Director of Registry Services when required.

Ideal Candidate

We are seeking an experienced and influential leader with significant expertise in higher education quality assurance and enhancement. You will bring strong knowledge of the UK regulatory environment, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to use data to inform decision‑making. Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills are essential, along with the confidence to challenge and influence senior colleagues.

You will be collaborative, organised and detail‑focused, with a commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion. Experience supporting complex academic provision, including collaborative and PSRB‑aligned provision, is highly desirable. Postgraduate qualifications and membership of relevant professional bodies are welcomed.
