We are seeking an exceptional leader to join our Directorate of Library and Student Services as Head of Library & Learning Services. This is a key senior role that offers the opportunity to lead and develop a modern, student-centred library service that supports learning, teaching, research and academic success across the University.

The Role

Reporting to the Associate Director of Library & Learning Services, you will provide strategic leadership and operational oversight of the University's library and learning services. You will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality, accessible and future-focused services that meet the needs of our diverse student population, including commuter, mature, part-time and widening participation students.

Leading a talented team of library professionals, you will oversee physical and digital library services, collections, library systems, archives and special collections, ensuring services remain responsive to changing student expectations, sector developments and emerging technologies.

You will work closely with academic and professional service colleagues across the University to enhance the student experience, improve retention and attainment, and support the delivery of our Learning for Life Strategy. Through data-informed decision-making and strong stakeholder engagement, you will play a significant role in shaping the future direction of library and learning services at DMU.

About You

You will be an experienced and inspirational library leader with substantial experience of managing library services within a higher education environment.

We are looking for someone who can demonstrate:

  • Significant leadership experience within university library services.
  • An excellent understanding of contemporary library provision and the evolving needs of students and staff in higher education.
  • Experience of strategic planning, organisational change and service improvement initiatives.
  • Strong knowledge of library management systems, acquisitions, digital resources and copyright and licensing requirements.
  • A proven ability to lead, motivate and develop high-performing teams.
  • Experience of working collaboratively with academic and professional services colleagues to deliver institutional priorities.

Further Information

The role is based on campus for a minimum of three days per week as part of DMU's hybrid working approach. Occasional evening and weekend working may be required to support key events and operational activities.

If you are passionate about the transformational role libraries play in student success and are ready to lead a dynamic service through its next phase of development, we would love to hear from you.
