The Faculty of Technology, Arts & Culture (TAC) is home to many of DMU's creative disciplines and humanities subjects and is one of the UK's leading Higher Education providers of creative disciplines. Working in a busy and dynamic administration team, we provide professional support service to our 5000 students and 300 members of staff across our 3 main buildings; the award-winning V J Patel Building, the Clephan Building and our Performing Arts Centre of Excellence.

 

Role

DMU has a 20-year Partnership with Liaoning University in Shenyang, NE China. Shenyang is famous for its blend of history, nature, culture, and modernity, and is within easy reach of the mountains, the coast and the Great Wall of China.
Your role will be to teach English for Academic Purposes (EAP) to students in the initial English Year of their 4-year dual award programme, which runs from September to July. The contract covers the remainder of the current Academic Year (to July 2026) and the whole of the 2026-27 Academic Year.


You will be expected to:
Prepare and deliver EAP classes for 15-18 hours per week on campus at LNU.
Support students through 1-1 and group tutorials.
Assess students’ performance formatively in class and through summative assessments.
Work closely with co-tutors and the management team in the UK and China to ensure the success of the Programme.
Planned start date: Monday 16th March 2026 (teaching in China from Monday 6th April).
Planned contract end date: 31st August 2027.
Support in day-to-day life will be provided by the partner university staff, some of whom are expatriate teachers.
Two return flights to China per academic year, accommodation and settling-in costs will be provided by DMU.

Eligibility is subject to Chinese visa regulations.

DMU will cover the costs of obtaining a visa to teach in China. 

Please note that DMU can only employ people who are UK tax residents.

 

Ideal Candidate

Diploma in English Language Teaching (preferred) or an MA in ELT / TESOL or similar alongside a TEFL certificate (eg CELTA or TESOL) which includes a minimum of 5 hours of observed teaching.
Minimum 2 years’ Experience of teaching EAP at a Higher Education Institution.The ability to cope with the demands of an intensive English programme. The flexibility and qualities needed to live in China and work on a Chinese university campus for a full academic year.
