Main duties and responsibilities

 

De Montfort University (DMU) are looking to appoint a new Associate Dean (Research and Innovation) in the Faculty of Business and Law. Faculty

Based in the £35 million Hugh Aston building, the Faculty of Business and Law is a truly global community of more than 8,000 students from more than 100 nationalities. State-of-the-art study facilities include a finance trading floor, mock and real courtrooms, computer laboratories, dedicated PGR facilities along with study and breakout areas. With a strong emphasis on employability, the business and law programmes offer students an opportunity to undertake a placement, internships and live projects. The faculty also boasts strong links with professional bodies such as ACCA, CIMA, CIM and CIPD, offering recognition and significant exemptions from professional courses across a wide range of subject areas. With a vibrant research culture, the faculty is home to a large Research and Innovation Institute for Responsible Business and Social Justice with multi-disciplinary hubs in Inclusive International Development, Inclusive Society, Sustainable Business Futures and a Centre for Law and Social justice.  With over 200 members and affiliates, we work closely with both industry and communities locally and nationally.

 

The Role

Reporting to the PVC & Dean, the Associate Dean (Research and Innovation) will play a pivotal role in providing effective strategic leadership and management of research and innovation across the faculty.  You will be responsible for the faculty strategic plan, portfolio management and implementation of key initiatives for the delivery of high-quality research, knowledge exchange, consultancy and postgraduate research student activities. As a member of the Faculty Leadership Team, you will also work strategically and collaboratively with other senior leaders including the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Planning, Research and Innovation), Associate Pro-Vice Chancellors and Research and Innovation Institute Directors to drive performance and achievement of our strategy and vision.

 

The Ideal Candidate

You will be an experienced academic leader with leadership and management experience of research and innovation activities at School or Faculty level in Higher Education or other equivalent organisation.  With a well-developed research profile, you will bring your own experience of sizeable income generation through grant bids and/or KTPs or consultancy as principal investigator or project lead, commensurate with your area of expertise. Demonstrating an in-depth knowledge of the current approaches, initiatives and trends in research and innovation applicable to the higher education sector, you will understand what it takes to develop and sustain a high-quality research and innovation environment. You will be an able people leader with skills in successful change management, able to reach and influence a range of stakeholders from faculty and university to external businesses and organisations.

 

You should hold a professorship, ideally in a discipline aligned to the faculty, or be able to demonstrate meeting the relevant criteria for the award of the title of Professor upon commencement of employment, in accordance with Appendix 4 of the University’s Academic Promotion Guidelines 2024/25. The salary range for those applicants meeting our professorial criteria is £76,240 to £129,119* plus £6,000 per annum allowance. Appointment within this range will depend upon the professorial standing of the applicant. *Applicable from 1 August 2025
