About De Montfort University (DMU)

De Montfort University is a distinctive and high-quality university, known for its life-changing research, global partnerships, strong links with business, and dedication to excellence in learning, teaching, and the student experience.

The Role

We are seeking a highly organised Governance Officer to join our Corporate Services team. You will maintain the university's governance framework, providing high-level support to senior boards and committees, and ensuring smooth governance operations that meet regulatory requirements and transparency standards.

Key Responsibilities

You will provide high-level secretariat support to the Board of Governors and sub-committees, including drafting papers and reports, attending meetings to produce accurate minutes, and advising senior executives on governance matters. Working with the Deputy Secretary, you will monitor regulatory requirements, draft compliance policies, and support dealings with external regulators while maintaining governance transparency and managing the Register of Interests.

This is a full-time (37 hours per week), fixed-term position for maternity cover. The Governance Office works within DMU's Hybrid Working Policy and applications seeking flexibility are welcome. If you are an internal applicant looking for a secondment opportunity, please discuss this with your line manager first as approval will be at your current line managers discretion.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a highly motivated individual with strong governance experience, exceptional written and oral communication skills, excellent planning and organisational abilities, and exceptional proofreading skills with keen attention to detail.

Essential Skills and Experience

You will be educated to degree level or possess equivalent experience, with proven governance experience providing high-level support to senior boards or committees. We require exceptional written and oral communication skills, excellent planning and organisational abilities, and exceptional proofreading skills with keen attention to detail. You must demonstrate strong understanding of confidentiality and UK GDPR requirements, along with the ability to work independently, prioritise effectively, and build relationships at all levels.

Desirable Skills and Experience

Additional valuable experience includes devising and improving systems and processes, along with knowledge of higher education governance arrangements and sector developments.

Our Values

The successful candidate will embody DMU's values: being collaborative by working together to achieve joint outcomes; being compassionate through openness, honesty, and caring; being creative by striving for better and exploring innovative solutions; and being community-minded by embracing alternative views, treating others with respect, and tackling inequalities.
