De Montfort University (DMU) is an ambitious, globally-minded institution with a strong focus on delivering quality teaching and learning and a campus-wide focus on providing a sector-leading student experience. As a culturally rich university with a deep commitment to the public good, the DMU community strives to maintain a stimulating and inclusive environment where staff and students are able to thrive. The University prides itself as being a vibrant, multicultural hub of learning, creativity and innovation.

Directorate and Team:

The Maths Learning Centre is situated within Learning Services based in the Directorate of Library and Student Services. Learning Services have achieved a national reputation for the quality and range of their work with students. We welcome new colleagues to support continuing demand for our work and wider contribution to DMU.

Role:

Are you passionate about high-quality teaching and excited about supporting all learners to succeed in maths? Then this could be an ideal role for you.

This is a primarily teaching role, supporting students on a wide range of programmes at all study levels from foundation to Ph.D. to succeed in mathematics.

You will lead on activities related to maths support including:

  • Supporting undergraduate, postgraduate and research students through drop-ins, individual or small group tutorials, workshops and lectures
  • Delivering, reviewing and improving the provision of maths support within the Maths Learning Centre
  • Developing high quality online and face-to-face learning resources
  • Working with colleagues across the university to promote and develop maths support

You will be joining the team at an important stage of development, and we are seeking someone who brings initiative, commitment, and the skills needed to grow into the role while helping to promote and expand our service.

Ideal Candidate:

We are seeking someone who is an outstanding maths teacher with experience of teaching in UK higher or further education.  You will have a passion for maths, with the ability and knowledge to support maths teaching across a broad range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.  You will be a confident and proactive individual who is committed to developing maths support with a wide range of colleagues in different subject specialisms.

You will be someone who is comfortable teaching basic concepts such as ratios and percentages to students in non-specialist subjects, through to more complex maths for final year and postgraduate engineers.

We teach primarily face-to-face, therefore it will be necessary to work on campus in Leicester. The availability of the maths service may extend to early evening on a limited basis at busy times of the year. Ideally, we are looking for full time applications, however, part time applications will be considered. Please clearly state what fraction of the post you are applying for in your application.

Please ensure you complete the full application form including the personal statement section; any other documents uploaded will not be reviewed at this stage. Within the personal statement please highlight your relevant knowledge, skills and experience with particular reference to how you meet the criteria outlined in the person specification.

This role is subject to a satisfactory DBS Check – Level of check to be determined at offer stage.
