Main duties and responsibilities

Senior Cloud & Infrastructure Analyst Leicester Hybrid – 2 days onsite

The Digital and Technology Directorate at De Montfort University (DMU) is central to transforming how the university delivers digital value. We are modernising services through cloud adoption, reducing technical debt and implementing a product operating model that supports agile delivery and operational excellence. Our work spans AI, automation, endpoint management, cyber security and infrastructure modernisation, ensuring resilient, user‑focused and future‑ready digital services across DMU.

The Role

As a Senior Cloud & Infrastructure Analyst, you will act as a technical subject matter expert across DMU’s hybrid infrastructure. This includes public cloud services primarily Microsoft Azure and on‑premises technologies such as Windows and Linux servers, VMware virtualisation, NetApp storage and a range of hybrid and security platforms. You will lead on designing and implementing hybrid cloud and on‑premises solutions, including assessment and documentation of existing infrastructure landscapes.

You will play a key role in DMU’s early‑stage cloud adoption journey, developing infrastructure roadmaps and guiding the transition to scalable, resilient and secure cloud platforms aligned with the university’s digital transformation strategy. The role requires strong analytical capability, the ability to balance operational continuity with transformation, and a deep understanding of hybrid cloud principles, cloud security architectures and modern infrastructure technologies.

You will be part of the Platforms and Connectivity team, working closely with IT Security, Architecture and Data colleagues across a diverse portfolio of technology projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a technical SME and administrator for DMU’s hybrid infrastructure.
  • Contribute significantly to the Cloud Adoption Strategy, including managing Azure workloads and assessing new and existing solutions.
  • Design scalable, resilient cloud solutions and lead migration of legacy systems to modern platforms.
  • Optimise hybrid cloud environments for cost, security and performance.
  • Embed security‑by‑design principles and leverage security data to inform decision‑making.

Essential:

  • Extensive experience designing and implementing hybrid cloud and on‑premises solutions.
  • Strong experience managing complex IT platforms (Windows/Linux, VMware, NetApp, security).
  • Proficiency in modern infrastructure technologies including virtualisation, containerisation or serverless.
  • Strong understanding of hybrid cloud, cloud security architectures and secure design principles.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Willingness to provide out‑of‑hours support when required.
  • Degree in a related field or equivalent experience.

Desirable:

  • Relevant public cloud certifications, ideally Microsoft Azure (AZ‑900, AZ‑104, AZ‑305).
  • Additional certifications (VMware, NetApp, Microsoft, IT Security).
  • Experience with IaC (Terraform, ARM, Bicep) and DevOps pipelines.
  • Experience in higher education or similarly complex environments.
