Job Description:

Main duties and responsibilities

De Montfort University (DMU) is an ambitious, globally minded institution committed to delivering high-quality teaching, innovative research, and an outstanding student experience. As a culturally diverse university with a strong commitment to the public good, DMU provides a stimulating and inclusive environment where staff and students can thrive. Our success is built on excellent teaching, world-class facilities, and a focus on developing the skills and confidence employers value.

The Directorate
The Digital and Technology Directorate plays a central role in transforming how the university delivers digital services. We are modernising our technology landscape through cloud adoption, reducing technical debt, and introducing a product-focused operating model that supports innovation across the institution. By combining agile delivery with operational excellence, we ensure services remain resilient, secure, and user-centred.

The Role
As Senior Cloud and Infrastructure Analyst, you will act as a subject matter expert across DMU’s hybrid infrastructure, including Microsoft Azure cloud services and on-premises platforms such as Windows and Linux servers, VMware virtualisation, NetApp storage, and core security technologies.

You will contribute to DMU’s cloud adoption journey by helping shape infrastructure roadmaps and supporting the transition to scalable, resilient, and secure platforms aligned with the university’s wider digital transformation strategy. In this role, you will provide technical expertise and administration across hybrid infrastructure services while supporting the development and delivery of the university’s Cloud Adoption Strategy. You will evaluate requirements, design and implement scalable cloud solutions, and support the migration of legacy systems to modern platforms. You will also ensure infrastructure services remain secure, resilient, and aligned with operational and strategic needs.

Team Structure
This role sits within the Platforms and Connectivity team in the Digital and Technology Directorate. You will work closely with colleagues in IT Security, Architecture, and Data teams across a diverse portfolio of technology initiatives and projects.

The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will have strong technical experience working with cloud platforms, ideally Microsoft Azure, within hybrid infrastructure environments. You will have experience managing enterprise infrastructure including Windows and Linux servers, VMware virtualisation, NetApp storage, and security technologies in large-scale or business-critical environments. You will be comfortable designing solutions that balance operational continuity with digital transformation goals and will have experience delivering secure, scalable infrastructure services across both cloud and on-premises environments.

Desirable experience includes relevant Microsoft Azure certifications such as AZ-900 or AZ-104, experience delivering platform or infrastructure projects from concept through to implementation and support, and experience with service monitoring and performance optimisation. Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code using tools such as Terraform, ARM, or Bicep would be beneficial, as would experience working in Higher Education or similarly complex organisations. A technical understanding of networking technologies, including firewalls, load balancing, and hybrid connectivity between cloud and on-premises environments, would also be advantageous.
