Job Description:

Main duties and responsibilities

De Montfort University (DMU) is a forward-thinking institution driven by innovation, inclusion, and a deep commitment to delivering outstanding digital services. Since the launch of our Digital Transformation Strategy in 2022, we’ve implemented major infrastructure upgrades, embedded user-centred design practices, and laid the foundations for a modern, agile university. This transformation is ongoing, and with so much still to achieve, it’s an exciting time to join us. At DMU, you’ll contribute to meaningful, lasting change that supports students and staff alike, all within a vibrant and ambitious university community.

Directorate

The Digital and Technology Directorate plays a central role in reshaping how the university delivers digital value. We are modernising our services through cloud adoption, reduction of technical debt, and the implementation of a product operating model - still novel in higher education but increasingly vital to public sector innovation. Our approach combines agile delivery with operational excellence, ensuring services are both resilient and user focused. From AI and automation to endpoint management and cyber security, the Directorate is focused on creating streamlined, future-ready services that support academic and professional excellence across DMU.

Role

We are seeking a proactive Senior Cyber Security Analyst to join the Digital and Technology Directorate. You will lead detection, investigation, and response to cyber threats, protecting systems, services, and data.

You will strengthen security capability, improving controls, responding to incidents, and managing emerging risks to support secure digital delivery.

You will embed best practice across services and projects, ensuring cyber risk is managed and security is integrated into solution design and delivery.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

As a Senior Cyber Security Analyst, you will:

  • Lead investigation and response to complex cyber incidents
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate emerging threats
  • Manage and optimise security tools and controls (e.g. EDR, vulnerability management)
  • Provide expert guidance to projects and operations
  • Support assurance, audit, and compliance activities
  • Improve detection, response, and security maturity
  • Lead awareness initiatives, including phishing simulations

Team Structure

You will report to the Cyber Security Operations & Governance Lead within the Digital and Technology Directorate and work closely with security specialists, architects, and stakeholders across faculties and professional services.

Ideal Candidate

You will have strong hands-on cyber security operations experience, working independently and applying expert judgement. You will bring:

  • Experience leading incident response and managing events
  • Strong knowledge of modern security technologies and architectures
  • Ability to assess and communicate cyber risk clearly
  • Experience improving controls using threat intelligence
  • A proactive mindset to anticipate risks and drive improvements
  • Strong communication and stakeholder skills

We’re seeking someone technically confident, outcomes-focused, and committed to improvement, able to influence stakeholders and own key security activities.
