Job Description:

Main duties and responsibilities

De Montfort University (DMU) is a forward-thinking institution driven by innovation, inclusion, and a deep commitment to delivering outstanding digital services. Since the launch of our Digital Transformation Strategy in 2022, we’ve implemented major infrastructure upgrades, embedded user-centred design practices, and laid the foundations for a modern, agile university. This transformation is ongoing, and with so much still to achieve, it’s a particularly exciting time to join us. At DMU, you’ll contribute to meaningful, lasting change that supports staff and students alike, all within a vibrant and ambitious university community.

Directorate

The Digital & Technology Directorate plays a central role in reshaping how the university delivers digital value. We are modernising our services through cloud adoption, reduction of technical debt, and the implementation of a product operating model - still novel in higher education but increasingly vital to public sector innovation. Our approach combines agile delivery with operational excellence, ensuring services are both resilient and user-focused. From AI and automation to endpoint management and cyber security, the Directorate is focused on creating streamlined, future-ready services that support academic and professional excellence across DMU.

Role

We are seeking a highly capable and motivated Senior End User Computing Engineer to manage and maintain the university’s extensive desktop estate, which spans over 9,000 endpoints. Based within the Software Deployment team, this is a technically hands on role where your expertise will help ensure a stable, secure, and high performing user environment across staff and teaching spaces. From day to day operations to long-term planning, you’ll oversee asset management, image building, software deployment, and application packaging, ensuring consistent configuration and service resilience.

You’ll play a vital part in designing and managing endpoint security, antivirus protection, and system monitoring, all while maintaining a clear focus on user experience. The role involves working closely with colleagues across the Digital & Technology Directorate, supporting and improving digital efficiency across the university. Whether resolving complex issues, shaping deployment strategies, or advising on endpoint best practice, your contributions will have a visible and lasting impact.

Please note that this role will be hybrid with an expectation of a minimum 3 days per week onsite.

Ideal Candidate

You will bring significant experience in end user computing environments, with hands-on expertise in managing desktop, mobile, and print infrastructure. Technologies used include Intune, JAMF Pro, Configuration Manager, Active Directory and Entra ID.  You’ll have a strong understanding of lifecycle management, asset security, inventory tracking, and licence compliance, as well as familiarity with both Windows and macOS environments and mobile platforms (iOS and Android). You’ll be comfortable delivering consistent and secure configurations across a large-scale estate and have sound knowledge of imaging, packaging, and endpoint protection technologies.

You’ll be a confident communicator with strong analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to collaborate across both technical and non-technical teams. Experience in higher education or a large public sector environment is advantageous, as is knowledge of ITIL-aligned processes and change control. Above all, we are looking for someone proactive and detail-oriented, who brings a professional, user-focused approach and a commitment to continuous service improvement.
