Main duties and responsibilities
De Montfort University (DMU) is a forward-thinking institution driven by innovation, inclusion, and a deep commitment to delivering outstanding digital services. Since the launch of our Digital Transformation Strategy in 2022, we’ve implemented major infrastructure upgrades, embedded user-centred design practices, and laid the foundations for a modern, agile university. This transformation is ongoing, and with so much still to achieve, it’s a particularly exciting time to join us. At DMU, you’ll contribute to meaningful, lasting change that supports staff and students alike, all within a vibrant and ambitious university community.
About the role
De Montfort University Special Collections is seeking an archivist or curator to complete item-level cataloguing work on the Ski Club of Great Britain collection. This exciting and diverse collection documents the history of snow-sports and mountaineering in the UK. It has been partially catalogued, with two major sections outstanding: the artefacts, which range from garments and goggles to trophies and medals; and the extensive photograph collection.
Working as part of the Special Collections team, the cataloguer will use our Epexio cataloguing system to create accurate descriptions of items, combining elements of ISAD(G) and Spectrum and conducting background research where needed. There will also be the opportunity to work with student volunteers and to prepare outreach around the collection.
Ideal candidate
You will have a strong background of working or volunteering in the heritage sector (galleries, archives, or museums). It would be desirable to have or to be working towards a relevant qualification in Archives Management or Museum Studies. You will be able to demonstrate knowledge of the best practice in cataloguing and handling archives and heritage objects. You will be motivated with a keen eye for detail and a passion for making heritage accessible and engaging.
